The American Physiology Summit 2026 is a major international scientific meeting organized by the American Physiological Society (APS) that brings together researchers, clinicians, educators, and trainees across all areas of physiology. The summit serves as a collaborative forum to share cutting‑edge discoveries, explore how physiological systems interact in health and disease, and highlight emerging technologies and translational research. Through plenary lectures, symposia, poster sessions, and networking events, the meeting fosters cross‑disciplinary dialogue and showcases how integrative physiology drives advances in biomedical science, medicine, and human health.

Three of our lab members, Dr. Sachin Gupte, Dr. Melinee D'Silva and Comfort Williams will be attending this exciting conference.
Dr. D'Silva will be presenting the lab's work which examines how exosomes released from hypertensive lungs contribute to pulmonary hypertension–related disease mechanisms.
Using a rat model, the study shows that exosomes from hypertensive conditions carry a remodeled protein profile and a higher abundance of functional mitochondria compared with controls. These disease-altered exosomes include enriched signaling, metabolic, and immune-related proteins, suggesting they play an active role in intercellular communication and pathological signaling. The findings identify exosomal cargo as a previously unrecognized contributor to vascular and organ dysfunction and highlight its potential as a diagnostic or therapeutic target in pulmonary hypertension.
Find the abstract and poster below.
Comfort and Dr. D'Silva will also be presenting posters at the conference on Friday 24th April.
